It is known for delivering very high velocities and is valued in long-range shooting communities, particularly for varmint hunting and benchrest shooting. The high velocity results in a flat trajectory, which is crucial for long-distance accuracy. The 6x284 can achieve these impressive ballistic properties due to its relatively large case capacity, which allows for more gunpowder and thus higher pressure and velocity. However, the high pressures can also result in shorter barrel life compared to cartridges with lower velocities. It is not a commercially standardized cartridge, so ammunition has to be hand-loaded.
