The 7.35mm Carcano cartridge was developed for the Italian military and is a variation of the more widely known 6.5×52mm Carcano cartridge. It was introduced in the late 1930s and designed to offer improved terminal ballistics over its predecessor. The cartridge uses a 128-grain (8.3 gram) spitzer bullet and has a muzzle velocity of around 2,480 feet per second (760 meters per second).
The 7.35mm Carcano was primarily used in the Carcano M38 short rifle, which was adopted by Italy just before World War II. Due to logistical issues and the onset of the war, the 7.35mm Carcano was not widely adopted, and Italian forces continued to primarily use the 6.5×52mm Carcano round.
As a military cartridge, the 7.35mm Carcano was designed for improved range and lethality compared to the older round. However, its limited use during the war means that it is relatively uncommon today and mostly of interest to collectors and military historians.
