The 7.65mm French Long, also known as the 7.65×20mm Longue, is a pistol cartridge that was developed in France. It was primarily used in the French military firearms during the early to mid-20th century. This cartridge was designed for the M1935A and the M1935S semi-automatic pistols, as well as the MAS-38 submachine gun.
The cartridge is characterized by a bottleneck design, which allows for a higher velocity in a small package. The bullet diameter is around 7.65mm (.30 caliber), and the overall cartridge length is approximately 20mm. Typically, it propels a 77-grain (5.0 g) bullet at a velocity of around 1,150 feet per second (350 m/s).
Although it had notable usage during its period, the 7.65mm French Long became less common after World War II and was eventually phased out in favor of other ammunition types. Today, it is primarily of interest to collectors and historical firearm enthusiasts.
