Standardized in 1930, the 7.62×25mm Tokarev is nothing more than a higher-pressure 30 Mauser loading, compared to 30 Mauser ammunition of the era. It has a relatively high pressure-limit of about 36,000 psi. Internet claims are all over the place regarding performance but it is well known the original intent of the Russian version of the 30 Mauser was to load the same case to higher pressure and therefore improve performance. As such, this ammunition should never be used in any older pistol. With modern components, when loaded to the CIP pressure limit of 36,300 psi, it can launch 93-grain bullets at 1500 fps, using a 4.7-inch barrel, making it a formidable self-defense round that generates relatively mild recoil. Use of progressively shorter barrels progressively reduces ballistics rather rapidly. As with any bottlenecked pistol round, best practice is to apply a roll-crimp after seating the bullet. This helps to lock the bullet in place against chambering forces that might otherwise drive it into the case. I cannot too-strongly recommend getting a second seating-and-crimping die so you can have one adjusted to only seat the bullet and the second adjusted to only crimp the case mouth. Generally, attempting to do both operations in one step is a recipe for damaged and destroyed cases.
