The 7.5x54mm French MAS cartridge, also known as the 7.5mm MAS or 7.5x54mm French, is a rimless, bottleneck rifle cartridge designed by France and introduced in the 1920s. It was developed to replace older cartridge models and intended primarily for military use.
This cartridge was used predominantly with the MAS-36 bolt-action rifle, the MAS-49 and MAS-49/56 semi-automatic rifles, and various machine guns, including the AA-52. The 7.5x54mm offers a good balance between recoil, accuracy, and terminal performance, making it suitable for both infantry rifles and machine guns.
The cartridge typically fires a 139-grain (9-gram) bullet at around 2,690 feet per second (820 meters per second) from a standard rifle barrel, providing effective range and stopping power for typical military engagements.
Though largely phased out in favor of NATO-standard cartridges, the 7.5x54mm French MAS remains of historical interest and is still used by enthusiasts and collectors today.
