The 6mm Remington Bench Rest (BR) cartridge, often referred to as 6mm BR or 6mm BR Remington, is a centerfire rifle cartridge primarily used in precision shooting, particularly benchrest and long-range target competitions. Introduced in the early 1970s by Remington, it is derived from the .308 Winchester case, shortened and necked down to accept a 6mm bullet (.243 inch).
The cartridge is known for its high accuracy and mild recoil, benefiting from its efficient case design which promotes consistent powder burning and minimal throat erosion. Common bullet weights range from 60 to 107 grains, with muzzle velocities typically between 2,800 and 3,050 feet per second, depending on the bullet weight and powder load.
The 6mm BR is prized among competitive shooters for its excellent ballistic performance and ability to shoot tight groups at various distances, making it a staple in precision rifle events.
Use cases:
- Benchrest shooting
- Long-range precision shooting
- Varmint hunting due to its flat trajectory and accuracy.
Not suitable for big game hunting due to its relatively light bullet weight.
