format_quoteThis is a wildcat created by simply necking the 300 Winchester Short Magnum (WSM) case down to 6.5mm, the 6.5×300 WSM shares a foolishly short case neck with so many others. Performance is impressive but barrel life is likely short enough to matter to anyone who uses the gun more than just occasionally.
This probably would not matter to a hunter who seldom checks the zero, does not develop new loads as superior components become available, and who does not hunt much. All those things seem contrary to the very description of someone who would deliberately own a wildcat-chambered gun.
But, this is just yours-truly venting. To each his own.
Some shooters and hunters could care less about barrel life. For them, the flat trajectory and potential for chambering in a lighter, shorter rifle, when compared to other high-performance 6.5mm cartridges could certainly offset any deficits involved.
For example, anyone wanting to build a truly lightweight rifle for hunting mountain goats and for similar applications (where weight and handiness are paramount) will find significant value in this wildcat.
Efficient bullets with sufficient BC to carry adequate energy to extreme distances can still be light enough to not generate onerous recoil in a very light rifle. This cannot be said of cartridges of significantly larger caliber.
