format_quoteIntroduced by Federal in 2022, the 30 Super Carry is a modern pistol round using a straight-tapered case and high pressure (45,000 psi) to launch relatively light bullets at higher velocity than otherwise similar rounds using much less pressure can achieve. It can be chambered in similar guns as the 9mm Luger and will develop similar muzzle energy and recoil while offering greater magazine capacity along with muzzle blast that is far-more-obnoxious.
Just contemplating the muzzle blast of a 30-caliber round loaded to 45,000 psi fired in a pistol with a short barrel makes me shudder! If I ever have to be around one at the range, I will don foam ear plugs and quality ear muffs and then I will leave!
Loaded with the best bullets that modern technology can produce, it would seem the 30 SC should do anything the 9mm will do and perhaps a bit more. The added magazine capacity might matter to some folks enough to offset the wicked muzzle blast that will discourage practice for many shooters.
As with any pistol round headspacing on the case mouth, best practice is to apply a taper-crimp after seating the bullet. This helps to lock the bullet in place against chambering forces that might otherwise drive it into the case. I cannot too-strongly recommend getting a second seating-and-crimping die so you can have one adjusted to only seat the bullet and the second adjusted to only taper-crimp the case mouth. Generally, attempting to do both operations in one step is a recipe for damaged and destroyed cases.
