The 7.63×25mm Mauser, commonly referred to as the .30 Mauser, is a bottlenecked pistol cartridge developed by the German arms manufacturer Mauser in 1896. It was originally designed for use in the Mauser C96 semi-automatic pistol, also known as the "Broomhandle" due to its distinctive grip shape.
The cartridge is known for its high velocity, with a typical muzzle velocity of around 1,400 feet per second (430 meters per second) when using a 85-grain bullet. This high velocity contributed to its relatively flat trajectory and effective range, making it suitable for both military and civilian applications in the early 20th century.
The .30 Mauser saw use in various military conflicts, including World War I and the Chinese Civil War, primarily due to its use in the C96 pistol and various submachine guns. It was eventually overshadowed by other more modern cartridges but remains a notable part of firearms history.
Today, the .30 Mauser is primarily of interest to collectors and historical firearms enthusiasts. Ammunition manufacturing for this cartridge is limited, mostly catering to the needs of these niche markets.
